HOME by Guy Nelson
There is a place where I have been
and do not want to go again
a desolate, dead and empty place
without a soul, without a face
Where those who were friends, strangers become
and where you felt joy you feel only numb
A painful place to draw a breath
there you long and pray for death
There is an island too painful to believe
a long time getting there . . . a longer time to leave
Sometimes, in dreams it steals into my mind
and I awaken, terrified to find
that which I thought dead and cold
still resides within my soul
So be cautious the waters you choose to swim
and closely watch demons who dwell within
for strong currents strange journeys make
and many die within their wake
